Almost every Indian family has played Teen Patti at a Diwali gathering. The app versions keep the same three-card hands you already know but add a digital table, a betting timer and automatic payouts.

Teen Patti in a nutshell

Each hand uses three cards from a standard 52-card deck. The stronger three-card combination wins. Suits do not rank against each other in the usual rules.

Hand rankings, strongest first

RankHandExample
1Trail / SetThree queens
2Pure Sequence5, 6, 7 all hearts
3Sequence9, 10, J in mixed suits
4Colour2, 8, K all spades
5PairTwo 4s and an ace
6High CardA, 9, 3 unsuited

When two hands share a category, the higher cards decide. Remember that a Sequence outranks a Colour here, unlike in poker.

What an app round looks like

Teen Patti on apps comes in two broad styles. In a traditional table, players put in a boot amount, then take turns to bet blind or seen, pack, or ask for a show. In a dealer-style version, you simply bet on which side's hand will win while the cards are revealed.

Blind and seen stakes, show rules and side bets change between versions. Tap the rules or info icon inside the game to see exactly how your table works.

Use a simple stopping rule

Teen Patti can feel skill-based, which tempts people to keep playing "until the cards turn". Before you join, decide on one stop point: for example, leave after losing half the amount you brought, or after one hour. Write it down and honour it.

FAQ

Teen Patti FAQ

Which hand is the strongest in Teen Patti?

A Trail, also called a Set, is the strongest standard hand. It means three cards of the same rank, such as three kings. Three aces are usually the top Trail. After that comes Pure Sequence, then Sequence, Colour, Pair and High Card.

Is a Sequence stronger than a Colour in Teen Patti?

Yes. In standard Teen Patti rankings, a Sequence of three consecutive cards in mixed suits beats a Colour, which is three cards of one suit that are not in sequence. This is the opposite of five-card poker, so it catches many new players out.

Are Teen Patti games in the app played against other people?

It depends on the version. Some Teen Patti titles are dealer-style games where you bet on outcomes, while others seat you with other players. Open the game's rules screen to see who you are playing against and how bets are settled.
