Higher or lower, again and again
Hilo is a quick card game in which you see one card and predict whether the next will be higher or lower. Get it right and your multiplier grows; get it wrong and the round ends.
It feels like a guessing game you might play with a deck at home, but the screen shows you the payout for each option before you choose.
Building a chain of guesses
You start by setting a stake. A card is revealed, and two buttons appear, each showing its potential multiplier.
After a correct guess, the new card becomes your reference and you can guess again. Each success multiplies your running total. At any point after a win, you can cash out and keep it.
Why payouts change
The multiplier on each button depends on the probability of that result. With a 2 showing, "higher" is almost certain and pays very little. With a 7 or 8 showing, the odds are closer, so both choices pay more.
Skipping cards
Many versions let you skip a card you do not like without ending the round. How equal ranks are treated, and whether skips are limited, differs between versions, so read the in-game rules.
Decide your exit before you start
The hardest part of Hilo is stopping. A long chain feels like momentum, but each guess is a new risk to everything built so far. Choose a target, such as cashing out after three correct guesses, and follow it every round.
Also set a total loss limit for the session. When you reach it, close the game rather than raising stakes.

Why does a guess on a middle card pay more than a guess on an ace?
The payout for each guess reflects how likely it is. If the card showing is very low, guessing higher is very likely to win, so it pays little. With a middle card, both guesses are closer to even, so each pays more.
What happens if the next card is the same rank in Hilo?

Can counting cards help me win at Hilo?
