Clusters and cascades
A spin fills the grid. Any group of matching symbols connected side by side or up and down, and large enough to meet the minimum, pays out and then clears. The gaps are refilled from above, and a new group formed by the refill pays too. The spin ends once nothing more connects.
The dragon meter
Every symbol removed in a winning cluster adds to a progress meter next to the grid. When the meter passes certain points, a dragon appears and applies a feature to the board, such as clearing symbols or placing wilds. Each dragon behaves differently, and the rules screen describes them in order.
How the meter behaves between spins can depend on the version, so read that section of the paytable rather than assuming progress carries over.
Tracking what you actually spend
A meter that fills up can make it tempting to keep spinning "just until the next dragon". Resist that pull by noting your wallet balance before you start and checking it every fifty spins or so. If the balance has dropped past the amount you set aside, stop there regardless of how full the meter looks.
